The Outsiders Poster

Featuring the first-edition (1967) cover of this controversial and loved cult novel. This dark coming-of-age story set among teen gangs in the American Midwest seems to have inspired a lot of later ‘young adult’ fiction. Cover design by Richard M. Powers, an American science fiction and fantasy fiction illustrator, who reportedly influenced the entire look of paperback SF in the 1950s and 60s by introducing elements of surrealism.
