First-edition artwork for Ralph Ellison's award winning novel about social invisibility and the American condition, which changed the shape of American literature (not to be confused with H. G. Wells' The Invisible Man). The artwork is by American graphic designer Edward McKnight Kauffer, who lived for much of his life in London.
