Featuring books straight from the shelves of the Bodleian Library, this bookish silk tie has been printed with a selection of the jolliest, japiest, most colourful titles from their children's books collection.
The books featured are all beautiful antique decorated cloth volumes. Cloth coverings were a common feature of late 19th Century and Edwardian period books, before dust jackets came into use. The bright block colours and pictures featured here were specifically designed to be attractive to children; although common practice now, appealing directly to children was not something that had been previously done. You can even read the titles of the wholesome school stories and hobby guides!
